Fun With Sleeves

Now that I know how to bunch the sleeves, I wanted to see how they would look with little bows on them. The material I used to make the bows is actually meant to accent a dress hem, but its all I had and it worked! I am really getting the improvising thing down.

Bunching Sleeves

Thanks to my very talented sister-in-law Marie, I learned to how to bunch the sleeves of the shirts to make them a little more girly.

It is actually quite easy to do. If you have a sewing machine and some shirts then all you need is some elastic. First measure the circumference of the sleeve and take off 1.5 inches. That is how long you want your elastic to be.

Turn the shirt inside out and start your stitch at the bottom (where the armpit is) so that most of the stitching will be hidden under the arm. You have to go back and forth a few times with the machine to get the stitch started and to make it strong enough to stretch as you sew. Pull the elastic pretty tight as you sew.

That's it. Your done! Takes about 4 minutes to do. Not bad.

You could even add some buttons or bows on the sleeves to complete the look.

Again, many thanks to Marie for taking time off from decorating 3 cakes, baking two more and getting ready for a yard sale to help me with this!

Yet Another Bag

I really like making bags. They are nothing to write home about, but they are simple and who doesn't love a bag? I had made this applique for a cape for Lyla, but it turned out that somebody else had the same idea and beat me to it. I decided to put it on a bag that Lyla and her mom can use for the library. I met Ashley at the library so it seemed fitting.

I always try to learn something new with everything I make. With this bag I figured out how to square the edges of the bag. I have been sewing a whole piece of material in my bags to do the same thing, thus making it much much harder than it needed to be. Thank goodness for online tutorials!!!

Check out the super awesome, vintage lining. :) All of the material I used for this bag was handed down to me by Jeff's late Aunt Margie. I am so grateful for the family to let me have some of her sewing stuff. I have already had a lot of fun with it.

For the Weightlifters

My brother asked me to make a onesie for his friend at work who is expecting. Can you guess what he does for fun?

A Silhouette

When you make your own kids' clothes you basically get to do whatever you want! I have always loved this picture of Sophia that was done by Marissa Noe Photography so I decided to see if I could make her a super-customized shirt. It doesn't get more personal than that!

Neat

When I first started working with felt I saw that somebody could take a drawing by child and turn it into a t-shirt. I thought that was such a great idea! What a unique and fun way to display the imagination of our kids! Brennen is my super-talented nephew who just turned six. At a birthday party we sat and drew monsters and robots. I kept one to see if I could make it into a shirt for him like the ones I had seen. This is my first attempt, but thanks to Brennen's talent, it turned out pretty cute.

It was a little challenging to re-create his carefree lines and scribbles, but it was just so fun to do. If you think you would like something like this, just email me a copy of a drawing and I will let you know if I can do it. It would be a fun idea for a birthday shirt or even for a holiday!

Just For the Fun of it

I have been doing so much sewing on my machine lately I had to take a break and hand sew with felt to balance it out. I don't want to get rusty.

A Huge Compliment. Yay!

I made a onesie for my Mother-In-Law that she was going to give as a gift for a baby shower and this is what she said:

"Well, Everyone loved your whale of a onsie at the shower. It was the ONLY gift that was passed around."

How exciting!!!! Wow! That just makes me so happy. :)

A Few More Things

I have been so busy making things for other people, I decided to take a little time and make something for Sophia and David. I noticed that David really likes to chew on the nylon straps of shopping carts and high chairs (very gross) so I made this little lovey for him.

Sophia is a little girly girl and loves her blankets and pillows, so she got this nice pillow. I put the appliques on a while ago, but finally sewed it all together for her.
