some fabric. The idea is still there and it will still be a cherished

This was originally a drawing by a super talented four year old friend of ours. I gave this as a birthday gift for her and she loves it. If you have cute drawings of your little ones, save them! They may be able to be turned into shirts!
My little way of thinking outside the box. Hope you like them. The flowers were painted on a cereal box and the background is ripped up newspaper. The frames I had in the Goodwill pile and fished them back out. What do you think?

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm2ux91ZXsDE4gLE9u0eZHEwHTfTMeFj5iDJEUPyytIrTqFgwlj1VwQJvE0yx4PpJus-7VKixaifXF_GHGsg0sK42TwmNOFbOqeV4d1MMDrifIjLZf1VWEigCdCjMr_OXPsJN_ftKbi8I/s1600/Crafty+Goodness.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 108px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm2ux91ZXsDE4gLE9u0eZHEwHTfTMeFj5iDJEUPyytIrTqFgwlj1VwQJvE0yx4PpJus-7VKixaifXF_GHGsg0sK42TwmNOFbOqeV4d1MMDrifIjLZf1VWEigCdCjMr_OXPsJN_ftKbi8I/s320/Crafty+Goodness.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617901751064615586" />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-35465653478108838502011-05-19T20:36:00.000-07:002011-05-19T21:03:12.338-07:00IdeasWhat I like so much about crafting is that the first glimpse of an idea in my head is never the same as the finished product. Life's little way of teaching me to go with the flow and see what happens. This project started with a tutorial that a friend sent to me. I love that people can look at beautiful crafts and think of me. It's the greatest compliment a beginner like me can ask for. Thank you so much! Anyhow, that tutorial led me to another tutorial a while ago that just sort of got stored in my brain. As I was cutting miles and miles of fabric to be made into ruffles (will post more about this later) I remembered this idea for making frayed rosettes. I just meant to play around with them a little, but I just couldn't stop myself! I am TERRIBLE with a glue gun, but I love these!!! Perfect little flowers for my perfect little daughter.

I was not planning on making these. They just kind of happened. The pictures don't really do them justice. They are so much cooler in person. It's because they believe that I can do it (even if I'm not so sure) and that means the world to me. A friend in KY asked me if I could make her a hemp bag with a cool tree (something with lots of limbs) hand painted on it. This is what she got. When Jeff and I got married we included a special hand ceremony. When I finally got to hold each of my kids, the first thing I went for was their hands. I have my dog's paw print (a paw is a hand, right?) tattooed on the back of my neck. I love hands. I am so grateful for mine and what I have chosen to do with them. I have a pretty bad case of eczema on my hands making them hurt all the time. I don't understand it because I have finally found something worth doing with them and it seems like they are working against me. They are always red, inflamed, raw, extremely itchy and cracked. I will be honest, they are incredibly ugly. I can't wear my wedding rings, I can't get them wet, and I have to be really careful about chemicals and acidic food. It hurts to do daily things such as holding and playing with my kids and most of the crafts I do. It's OK though because it just makes me appreciate what I can do with them all the more. I love the fact that even though my hands are ugly and painful, they do beautiful things. They GIVE..........

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheaIz-UBF0wylwatpYP8DsS5BkvgUdb-DtYgJM0KscEXbf0_650m-qF00tP6BJ9B7ymEI1pSFyKpqRH9rpdgKbfJv38yCeJAXAPUA1nQw9psdMCtRuRu9nSzR-AmrQxP_9atROUcjpK5Y/s320/IMG_2702.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598251129585731138" />

I don't care what my kids decide to do when they grow up, as long as they are givers.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-56397768783032751862011-04-07T20:44:00.000-07:002011-04-07T21:14:41.108-07:00I Love FeltI love making things out of felt. What I love even more is being able to share my love with friends. It makes me feel proud when people ask me to either make things for their kids or to give as a gift. It just feels good. They were my family. My kids were born and raised there. I think of Kentucky as my home. It's where I learned to be a mom. :) I recently met somebody who has to move for a while. Her husbands job keeps him on the move. I thought I would give her something to remember us by. These were really easy to make if you ever have to say goodbye to a friend. Just trace out your state, sew a little heart near the town, and put it on a shirt. Cheap, easy, and thoughtful.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4hCdFFW-K2ttwbXPFrLuPwHeEH-BwJFcRE0qTIoOec6C_oKH7wOmwlgqiw2-MAaF2CgDUgglkPueO18vVzG4Y16cMJLRfmozbFubko4AUb4882GlUtImYtH7n6Q6V2eHPKbqgca58BPc/s320/IMG_2246.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590450512051696002" />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-18092325298470124412011-02-17T17:02:00.000-08:002011-02-17T17:18:18.984-08:00Fun with Polymer ClayThere are many, many things that one can do with Polymer Clay. I sort of did these the hard way and got white clay and painted them. I wouldn't do it again. It took at least seven coats of paint for everything! I realize that is probably why the clay comes already colored. I will remember that for next time. The one thing is that I saved a few bucks only having to buy one color and I borrowed cookie cutters from a friend (the same one who gave me all the scrapbook paper) to make all these neat things. She actually gave me the idea for these from Christmas ornaments she was making for her friends and family. I love having friends that like crafting as much as I do!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhulLrEUgTkEWc5gwgBICypg6UP96W7Ha3d9gIDy7TfZ3R2oG2l0a8fUD6aIMaJir56-TuyBJtPpvKtqJZmMFiiDVzOj3QiauLwcq_pNRM15TdXaSsE2tNjTbd8PpNEG8ru-v3_3tPbAk0/s320/IMG_1547.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574830024655196130" />
The picture for this one doesn't really do it justice. It is a treatment facility for substance abuse and they house seven women and their children. I made a shirt and a necklace for all of the mothers there, but since the turnover rate is pretty high (a sad statistic) I made some extra for any new mothers that come in. It won't cure them, but if it makes them smile just once during their long journey ahead then I am happy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlI6HmTOHwxibCwqaoJF-zWkTnXNtmakIlFqSlg70RlpG35K1Vm-qlQCKfaNEzmfRRYJMr_n83ZyLTgoe6q1B2g8EATd7mFwyG8H_cDlVhcGdZStbvczzBF4LnEKCT_RwKxLtvhBMthtk/s320/IMG_0932.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562594083662280738" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 275px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK2IyRv_l7wBlcMHW-BLsOvbPCk7uPPTBH4zAORMQDeQol8LSr5zaC4FzgdQSzk47xmlMARU0qU2RCptYyqRWEaJkjjgZvg-1mFoMry4Ii5HjIGlUukf98YLT5TFa7yzb9FMXnxtHAVss/s320/IMG_0931.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562594083207737010" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiVUzcERDS_SZFebzNsrVy124LENUe9K5Phl08385USqSftng90YeYijiAJ7XGpJRp9E4mz0eM48XsYesaXG0OSEd47dc0iHMpksFoftK0_JfpmtpiFXXPXMjXaw1WPfdBnlj97kcfEJQ/s320/IMG_0926.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562594077043799106" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrN9vg4OMwHCbCEchNChR5Fyj8yJnjdOpI7xs0ghvPicrlBTR2goH8hiLnNLkvuKjQab-SJUkqkIE7P9ScGxk0RYR9OaOQp8_2Vu4s1uYy0XOw3WeZhOvTUtmHg7sR31EwnGfkHyvnnrg/s320/IMG_0923.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562594072728113458" />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-63583354368588990432011-01-15T17:24:00.000-08:002011-01-15T17:32:14.919-08:00The Guitar MobileA new friend of mine liked the heart mobile that I made for Sophia and asked me if I could do a guitar one for her rock star son. Here is what I came up with.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3FbdFg1l7M4DXuKePwbVGw5fEMGUABKLjOHucxjTNLL0NW4-C7WEiJdkvuocxNZ0gIadzQRwX92DLoyRglF-dUMtRybAG7E6qK0qUKBkYYif2uEakJwJ52MPG2gpx1PZE0nqCqvSGmas/s320/IMG_0892.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5562589929702457026" />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-68773336611389481772010-12-07T11:41:00.000-08:002010-12-07T11:53:38.456-08:00Marbleizing With Spray PaintA friend taught me how to use spray paint and water on canvas to make these cool designs. So easy and so fun! Just find fun colors, spray the water, dip the canvas and let them dry. Water will pill up on them, but it goes away when they dry. You can layer the paint to make certain colors stand out. I used a paint pen on one to draw butterflies, it turned out pretty neat. Enjoy!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 138px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0mG3-wMGTESDepViCHyzlghbhl2CBpxeVqJI1p4RZNvEcn5PLUxtspzjVsUvMZ-rWiy7rOtXK4q81AH4JUgHkzFDBmYi_57S8TXp2Oer6XTGjcKx0J7eS3VO4cGKQs6S2WhM5YtH8Azc/s320/2010-12-02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548030856486980594" />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-61162769137548235592010-11-11T15:28:00.000-08:002010-11-11T15:35:14.950-08:00A couple new thingsI am going to be a bit "lazy" and include two different things on the same post. I am blessed to have many people like that in my life, but none more than my friend Ashley. When all I see are a series of straight lines sewn together, she sees a masterpiece and tells all her friends about it. She was the first person to trust me to take a rotary cutter to her prized sorority shirts and knew before I did that I could make them into something she would cherish forever. Then she convinced her dad to to the same with his marathon shirts! And NOW!!! Now I got to do something truely amazing! There is no greater compliment than a friend asking you to make something they can give as a gift. What a great gift I get to make for her! She asked me to make a T-Shirt quilt to honor her pastor! How great is that?!?!?! I am just so thrilled to be a part of something so amazing! Thanks Ashley for always believing in me!!! And a BIG HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to Center Pointe Church!!!

Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16379048400232719607noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8444674010157952431.post-75259158408332344632010-09-30T16:23:00.001-07:002010-09-30T16:28:23.186-07:00Friendly SwapI met a lady at the park with two young boys (and now a girl on the way) a while ago who recently had a yard sale to pass on some blue clothes to make room for some pink. I was running low on clothes for David and she was more than happy to give me a bag for two shirts for her boys. How awesome is that??? I made my all-time favorite rocket for her young one, but for the other a robot was requested. I love a little bartering!!! She has never had her own room so I didn't have anything to decorate it. I have been thinking about it for a while what to do and decided to do cut-outs much like I did in David's room. Thanks to a good friend who let me raid her scrapbooking paper stash, another friend for letting me use her acrylic paint, and ANOTHER friend for giving me direction (and glue directions) I finally have wall art!!! Yay!

Sophia actually painted the background for this one and those are her hand prints. I just cut them out once they dried. I was trying to make them look like shadow puppet birds. Eh. At least we know what they are. That is the thing about art.
